Identify again the falciform ligament of the liver, which was cut free from the interior aspect of anterior abdominal wall. The falciform ligament forms a plane that divides the liver anatomically into right and left lobes. Within the free inferior margin of this ligament, identify the round ligament of the liver (ligamentum teres). This ligament represents the obliterated umbilical vein, a remnant of fetal circulation.
