(1 of 2) Enter the lesser peritoneal sac by reflecting the greater omentum superiorly and making a transverse incision in the gastrocolic ligament just inferior and parallel to the greater curvature of the stomach. Next, reflect the stomach superiorly.
Examine the extent of the lesser peritoneal sac through the incision in the gastrocolic ligament (Figure 37.5). The main part of the lesser sac is bounded anteriorly by the posterior surface of the stomach, the lesser omentum and the gastrocolic ligament, and posteriorly by the peritoneum that covers the posterior abdominal wall. Immediately
beneath the peritoneum of the posterior abdominal wall palpate the pancreas, the left kidney and the left suprarenal gland.Links and References:
