Now, clean and identify the splenic artery. It arises from the celiac trunk and follows a tortuous course along the superior border of the pancreas. Along its course, it gives numerous short pancreatic branches, which supply the body and tail of the pancreas. The splenic artery is accompanied by the splenic vein which runs along the posterior surface of the body and tail of the pancreas. In the lienorenal ligament the splenic artery passes the hilum of the spleen. Before entering the spleen, the splenic artery divides into three or four splenic branches, the left gastroepiploic artery, and the short gastric arteries. The left gastroepiploic and short gastric arteries pass through the gastrolienal ligament to reach the greater curvature
