(2 of 2) Cut the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries about 2 to 3 cm distal to the origin from the abdominal aorta . Free the sigmoid mesocolon and cut near its attachment to the posterior abdominal wall. Tie two strings around the distal part of the sigmoid colon below the sacral promontory and cut between the strings to separate the sigmoid colon from the rectum.
Next, cut the esophagus as it pierces the diaphragm. Locate and cut the celiac trunk at its base. Remove all of the abdominal organs (e.g. stomach, duodenum, pancreas, spleen, small and large intestine) with their vessels en bloc .
