Note that the glans penis is the expanded terminal portion of the corpus spongiosum. As the corpus spongiosum is separated from the corpora cavernosa, be careful not to injure the tunica albuginea which surrounds the corpora cavernosa. Realize also that the corpora cavernosa are actually two distinct structures. However, they are not easily separated from one another, as they
are fused in the median plane throughout most of their course.
