The superficial pouch contains three thin muscles:
- ischiocavernosus muscle
, that covers the corpora cavernosa or crus of the penis - bulbospongiosus muscle , that covers the bulb of the penis
- superficial transverse perineal muscle, that lies on the posterior edge of the urogenital diaphragm.
The bulbospongiosus muscle and ischiocavernosus muscles overly the root of the penis (Figure 42.4).
