(3 of 4) Posterior to the uterus and the posterior fornix of the vagina, the peritoneum is reflected onto the anterior surface of the rectum to form another narrow space, called the rectouterine pouch or pouch of Douglas. This pouch is bounded:
- anteriorly by the cervix and by the posterior fornix of the vagina
- posteriorly by the rectum
- laterally by the rectouterine folds
The rectouterine pouch is the lowest point in the peritoneal cavity in the female.Links and References:
