Identify the two folds of the peritoneum that develop from the broad ligament (Figure 43.2):
- The mesosalpinx, that lies between the oviduct and the ovary. It supports and conveys blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves to the oviduct.
- The mesovarium, that lies posterior to the mesosalpinx. The mesovarium connects the posterior aspect of the broad ligament to the ovary [left], [right] and encloses the ovarian ligament.
Inferiorly to the mesosalpinx, identify the mesometrium that forms the largest part of the broad ligament and spans in the frontal plane between the uterus and lateral wall of the pelvis.
