The upper part of the uterus is called the body of the uterus. The body of the uterus is separated from the cervix by a shallow constriction on the external surface, called the isthmus of the uterus, which corresponds with the level of the internal os. The body of the uterus is separated from the upper round portion of the uterus, the fundus of the uterus, by a line drawn at the level of the oviducts.
On the cut surface of the uterine wall identify:- perimetrium, which represents the peritoneal covering of the uterus
- myometrium, the thick muscular wall of the uterus
- endometrium, the mucosal lining of the uterine cavity (Figure 43.5)
