The anterior fornix of the vagina is located between the anterior wall of the vagina and the cervix. It is not covered by the peritoneum and is not closely associated with the vesicouterine pouch [the finger located in the vesicouterine pouch and tip of the probe is located in the anterior fornix].
The lateral fornices of the vagina connect the anterior fornix and posterior fornix of the vagina. They are not obvious in a hemisected pelvis, however, they are apparent in frontal and horizontal sections, such as those seen on CT scans and MRIs.Links and References:
