Rationale: Early and accurate diagnosis and management will help the patient with emotional adjustments surrounding fetal death and may prevent associated obstetric complications. 

The student will be able to describe: 

  1. Common causes of fetal death in each trimester 
  2. Symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic methods to confirm the diagnosis 
  3. Management of a patient with fetal death 
  4. Emotional reactions and their effect on management 
  5. Maternal complications of fetal death, including disseminated intravascular coagulopathy
