Rationale: Medical and surgical conditions may alter the course of
pregnancy and pregnancy may have an impact on the
management of these conditions.
The student will he able to counsel patients regarding potential consequences of the following conditions
in pregnancy:
- Anemia
- Diabetes mellitus
- Urinary tract disorders
- Infectious diseases, Including
- Herpes
- Rubella
- Group B Streptococcus
- Hepatitis
- Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), human papillomavirus (HPV) and other
sexually transmitted infections
- Cytornegalovirus (CMV)
- Toxoplasmosis
- Varicella and parvovirus
- Cardiac disease
- Asthma
- Alcohol, tobacco and other substance abuse
- Surgical abdomen
