Rationale: The proven benefits of good health prior to conception include a significant reduction in maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. 

The student will be able to: 

1. Describe how certain medical conditions affect pregnancy 
2. Describe how pregnancy affects certain medical conditions 
3. Counsel patients regarding a history of genetic abnormalities 
4. Counsel patients regarding advanced maternal age 
5. Counsel patients regarding substance abuse 
6. Counsel patients regarding nutrition and exercise 
7. Counsel patients regarding medications and environmental hazards 
8. Counsel patients regarding Immunizations
