17. Inferior mesenteric arteriogram, AP projection

Once again the catheter has been introduced into the abdominal aorta via the same approach used for the other abdominal arteriograms in this set of images. The branches of the inferior mesenteric artery supply the part of the GI tract derived from the hindgut: the descending and sigmoid colon, and the proximal part of the rectum.

Barium from an earlier barium enema has been retained in the lumen of the (vermiform) appendix.
