6. Small intestine enteroclysis, AP supine projection

Enteroclysis is a double contrast technique used to examine the jejunum and ileum. The tip of the small intestinal probe is just distal to the duodenojejunal flexure. Note how its C-shaped course to the right of the midline is consistent with its having negotiated the curves of the duodenum.

The circular mucosal folds (plicae circulares) of the jejunum and ileum are well visualized using the double contrast technique; they are more prevalent in the jejunum than the ileum, though there is no clear demarcation between these two bowel segments.

Peristalsis has propelled contrast material into the right side of the colon.
