14. R. ankle MRI, coronal plane

The plane of imaging is approximately through the malleoli. The growth plates of the distal tibia and fibula, which are cartilaginous, emit a different intensity signal than the surrounding bone marrow. The deltoid ligament connects the calcaneus and talus to the medial malleolus.

Note that the long flexor tendons can be seen inferior to the medial malleolus. From superior to inferior they are the Tibialis Posterior, Flexor Digitorum Longus, and Flexor Hallucis Longus (The Tom, Dick, and Harry muscles).
