2. R. shoulder radiograph, axillary projection

This image is obtained by abducting the arm with the patient supine, placing the film at the superior surface of the shoulder perpendicular to the table top, and aiming the x-ray tube horizontally into the axilla from below. Anterior is at the top of the image. Because it requires manipulation of the arm it is usually not obtained in patients who have suffered shoulder trauma. In this case, anterior oblique ("Y") views are obtained instead.
