Note that the long axes of the shafts of the radius and ulna are not parallel to the long axis of the shaft of the humerus. The angle on the radial (lateral) side of the elbow between the lines that project along the central axes of the humeral and ulnar shafts is called the carrying angle of the elbow. It averages 169° for males and 167° for females.
